Server demand exceeds supply
In the Q3 2026 earnings conference call, held on October 29, Intel management identified the data center as the period's main growth driver, signaling that server CPUs are in demand beyond supply capacity. The news, reported by IT之家, therefore mainly concerns the imbalance between demand and production rather than a simple sales figure.
According to CFO David Zinsner, the company's production network and external suppliers made it possible to increase server CPU production. On this basis, the company estimates that the DCAI division's annual revenue could exceed the expectations formulated at the start of the year by almost $10 billion, equal to about 66.8 billion yuan at the exchange rate cited by the source. This is a company forecast, not an actual result.
Double-digit growth, but constrained by supply
Intel expects server CPU shipments to grow by more than 30% in both 2026 and 2027. Management adds that, with greater availability, the increase could be even higher: the stated limit is therefore production, not demand. The company also expects the sector to remain characterized by supply constraints in 2027 and 2028, a horizon that extends the problem beyond the short term.
The relevant point is the combination of sustained demand and production capacity that the company describes as insufficient. This makes the growth forecast dependent on how much Intel and its suppliers will actually be able to produce, and not only on market trends.
The PC segment retreats and recovery remains conditional
On the opposite front, the PC market held up in the first half of 2026 and then weakened. Intel estimates a contraction of about 12% in the overall market for the year, with a decline of more than 20% in the second half. For 2027, the CFO expects a further decline of about 10% in the total market, more pronounced in the first half and improving in the second part thanks to the comparison with a lower base.
The company links a possible stable PC recovery to improved memory supply and price normalization; until then, according to the source, no lasting signs of recovery are expected. Intel nevertheless keeps its long-term view unchanged, according to which the traditional PC will have a role in fostering artificial intelligence applications and in supporting the return on investment in dedicated infrastructure.
What remains to be verified
The indications come from the earnings call and do not include detailed data on volumes, prices, or market shares. It therefore remains to be verified, in upcoming reports, whether server shipment growth will approach the indicated threshold and whether supply constraints will ease by 2028, as implied in the horizon outlined by management.
Similarly, the forecast of PC market contraction depends on the evolution of memory supply: the material does not quantify the timing of price normalization nor indicate when the recovery might materialize. The cited estimates should therefore be read as company guidance subject to revision, distinct from the quarter's already-closed results.
