What changes with the new update
According to a report by IT之家, NetEase has announced that the first major update to 《逆水寒:新世界》, titled 【苗疆蛊事】, will be available from October 30 with a “dual-line” update model. The source does not indicate the year of the date, so the date should be considered as stated by the company and as requiring verification. The central element of the announcement is the arrival of selfie mode, accompanied by a new “mentor station” feature and an update to the “set station,” the tool used by players to create and share in-game videos.
Selfie becomes interactive
According to the source, selfie mode allows players to take photos while the character walks and changes pose, adjusting arm position and camera orientation. It is also possible to look away and freely set the direction of the head and eyes, as well as take photos while seated. If another player is in a “holding hands” state, they participate by synchronizing with the selfie; mentors accompanying the player look toward the lens and join the photo.
With pets, the system allows players to decide whether they look toward the camera; some approach spontaneously and display different behaviors depending on species and personality. The source notes an explicit exception: a specific object or creature, identified as “逆崽八爪鱼萌萌泥”, does not support the gaze-toward-the-lens effect. According to the company, the development team is working to extend poses in later versions, including horseback selfies and selfies with custom actions: these are statements about features not yet available, not confirmed launch features.
Shared mentors and editing tools
The new “mentor station” enters the “set station”: players can publish works featuring their mentors, customizing their opening line, action, and voice, as well as the cover background, and can assign different personalities to the same mentor through multiple publications. Content flows into the usual recommendation feed without interrupting the already-known “show” mode; there is also a dedicated channel for mentors. Through the “conversation” function, players can interact with the mentor and, if they like the encounter, start a “commission”: the mentor, with the appearance and equipment set by the creator and without the player needing to own them, becomes a companion for 24 hours and is added to the list. It is possible to renew the commission or recruit them permanently.
The “set station” receives three updates: footprint effects reproducible on works, a “copy link” command that generates a text with the work’s ID, title, and author — whoever receives it, by pasting it and opening the station, sees a notice and is taken to playback — and segment-based editing of track speed, applicable to custom actions, expressions, voice lines, and camera movements. The source specifies that footprint effects apply only to new actions generated through the “intelligent generation” entry point from version 4.2.1 onward.
Several points remain to be verified: the actual year of release, how permanent mentor recruitment works, the limits of link-based sharing, and the actual timing of the features promised for the future. The material is based on the company’s announcement and the source, without independent corroboration.
