The CEO's announcement
Nothing, the smartphone startup known for the design of its phones, has an artificial intelligence-based product in preparation. CEO Carl Pei wrote on X on Wednesday that the company's first AI-native product will be distributed in December. The news is reported by TechCrunch in its AI section.
According to Pei, it is a tool built with the personality and care that characterize Nothing products. The CEO specified that the device does not introduce a new screen and could not have been made as an application. Pei also described it as a tool designed for productivity.
The launch is therefore confirmed for December, but without a precise date. The product's form, functions and price remain to be clarified: the available material offers no indications on these points.
A positioning different from other AI devices
Pei explained that he reads the industry's current moment differently. He observed that the entire sector is searching for its iPhone moment, among pendants, pins, glasses and companion devices, in the hope of creating a consumer object capable of making AI part of everyone's life. While acknowledging the boldness of this race, the CEO distanced himself from that approach.
The choice to exclude a screen and an app form, together with the definition as a productivity tool, suggests a product far from the AI wearables to which the CEO seems to allude with detachment. Nothing has nevertheless stated in the past that it wants to release smart glasses connected to AI and earbuds with AI integrations, but these projects were not indicated as the product coming in December.
What remains to be verified
The distinction between confirmed facts and statements is clear. It is confirmed that the company intends to distribute its first AI-native product in December. By contrast, the productivity-tool nature, the absence of a screen and the impossibility of building it as an app are statements by the CEO.
It is not known whether the device will be sold or distributed in another way, nor in which markets. There is no information on technical specifications, price or availability. The material does not even clarify whether the product belongs to the accessories category or constitutes a new line.
For Nothing's audience, the central question remains open: what exactly does this tool do, and how does it differ from AI offerings already on the market. Answers should come by December, when the company will be required to show the product.
