The demonstration and its limits
According to IT之家, a developer known as Yanei has published a video showing iOS 16.5 booted on a Xiaomi 8 smartphone. In the configuration, the device is presented to the system as an iPhone X, so that the elements of the Apple interface appear correctly on the screen of the Chinese phone. The source specifies that the footage is the main evidence available: there is no technical documentation, repository, or independent verification of its operation.
The same author, in the notes and comments on the video, reports an initially problematic boot on the GPU side, with slowdowns later mitigated thanks to fixes. At present, IT之家 writes, the home screen and animations appear sufficiently smooth. However, this is an early-stage port: many hardware drivers still need to be adapted and the system is not suitable for daily use.
Why the case is relevant
The operation is not isolated. The source cites a precedent: a developer had installed iOS on a Redmi Note 12 4G, later making the project public. The new episode confirms an artisanal trend, which according to IT之家 is also fueled by the support of artificial intelligence models in development on older devices. The comparison between the two cases suggests that the interest does not concern a single model but the possibility, entirely experimental, of running software designed for iPhone on Android hardware.
The choice to make the system believe it is on an iPhone X is not random. Xiaomi 8, presented on May 31, 2018, adopts a solution similar to that of the iPhone X: a 6.21-inch AMOLED screen with a notch, a curved glass body and a 7000-series aluminum frame. The author himself observes that the two phones are very similar, and this closeness explains why the port was attempted on that model in particular. However, it remains an aesthetic similarity, not technical compatibility.
What is missing and what remains to be verified
The picture offered by the source indicates a demonstrative experiment rather than a usable product. It does not specify which hardware functions are operational: camera, connectivity, audio, sensors and power management are not mentioned. The 3400 mAh battery and Snapdragon 845 processor described in the phone's specifications are not enough to infer the behavior of Apple's software, which was designed for a different platform.
There is also no indication of stability, security and longevity over time, nor of any distribution of the work. The source reports no official confirmations from either Xiaomi or Apple, and does not clarify whether the project will be made open source like the previous one on the Redmi Note 12 4G. The news should therefore be read as an account of a video demonstration: the novelty is the booting of iOS 16.5 on a Xiaomi 8 with an iPhone X identity, while practical use remains excluded by the author himself.
